More Perspectives

Hello, Sir.  How are you , Sir?

I don’t get called “sir” very often.  I don’t take it lightly.  I know that’s what they have to call the staff all week, so I expect it.  Perhaps it makes it a bit unreal.   I would imagine they wouldn’t call me sir on the street.

Spaces and Identity

when I’m arrogant

15 01 2008
I regret a past of smug sarcasm about the positions of others with whom I disagree. How much further from the Gospel can we get than to degrade others? Must disagreement require hateful behavior to prove our point or to insure that we are right? Jesus’ only repeated admonitions were to the religious who thought they were right and tried to push their belief on others.

The arrogance and smugness of too many Christian spokespersons has cost us greatly. We will pay a price for years to come for their mean-spirited and intemperate remarks. Bible-believing Christians are not usually characterized by the larger world as compassionate, gracious, and thoughtful. Rather, we are typed as angry, win-at-all-costs, insensitive people. How can our higher message—that Jesus is mighty to save—be taken seriously if we are perceived in this way? This is worth weeping for.
